GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: The Clinical Dietitian will work on nutrition and lifestyle medicine research projects in the Center for Family Health Promotion and Nutrition Equity, with the Division of General Academic Pediatrics. This is a 20-hour per week position for an outpatient Registered Dietitian, licensed in the state of Massachusetts. This position will provide nutrition care to pediatric patients of the MGH Chelsea Health Center and surrounding communities, both virtually and in-person. The Clinical Dietitian will be part of the pediatric CHAMPION Program’s multi-disciplinary care team which includes a physician and a Community Health Worker. The evidence-based CHAMPION program and research study seeks to evaluate whether telehealth vs. in-person delivery of CHAMPION is equally effective at reducing child BMI and asthma control in diverse lower income families. The CHAMPION program consists of individual and group visits guided by a set curriculum with a multi-disciplinary team (medical provider, dietitian, and community health worker), and other tools to support behavioral change and reduce body mass index (BMI) and asthma, such as follow-up phone calls, educational materials, social determinants of health screening and referral and text messaging. The Clinical Dietitian will play a crucial role in delivering comprehensive medical nutrition therapy based on evidence-based practices, including screening, assessing, and implementing nutrition care plans for patients, and ensuring adherence to departmental and hospital policies and procedures. The Clinical Dietitian will provide care to children and adolescents with overweight/obesity and asthma, through group and individual visits, both in-person and virtually, and will participate in a Virtual Learning Community and Quality Improvement calls and activities as part of the research project. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Communicate effectively with patients and family members ensuring patient-focused care and involvement in decision-making. - Obtain comprehensive patient data, including personal and medical histories, nutrition history, and nutrient requirements. - Analyze nutrition and health assessment data, identify nutrition-related problems, and formulate nutrition care plans. - Educate patients and their families about diet modifications and individualized nutrition plans. - Document all assessments and interventions accurately in the medical record. - Participate in interdisciplinary discussions and educate other healthcare professionals about the positive impact of appropriate nutritional care. - Precept and instruct dietetic interns during their rotations. - Actively engage in process improvement initiatives to advance the delivery of nutrition care. - Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary care team in individual and group visits, virtually and in-person, based on the site specific schedule and in collaboration with the medical provider and Community Health Worker. - Demonstrate ability to change patients' nutrition behavior for positive health outcomes. SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Strong nutrition education and counseling skills across the life cycle. - Ability to prioritize work with limited resources and make effective decisions. - Understanding of the interdependence of all areas of nutrition and food services. - Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS: - Registered Dietitian – Commission on Dietetic Registration (required) - Licensed Dietitian – Commonwealth of MA (required) EDUCATION: - BS in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related subject (required) / MS preferred EXPERIENCE: - Clinical experience desirable but not required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: - Instructs and supervises dietetic interns. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: - Works to utilize resources efficiently. WORKING CONDITIONS: - Outpatient office setting, with hybrid option. - Weekday hours only, some evening hours may be required.
