The Oncology Registered Nurse provides direction to Licensed Vocational Nurses and non-licensed nursing personnel in providing direct patient care. The Oncology Registered Nurse supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the mission and objectives of the Hospital.Essential Job DutiesReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.* Assumes responsibility for the efficient management of the Oncology Clinic/Treatment and/or facility patients as assigned. Acts as patient advocate in obtaining care with questioning of orders by medical and other professional staff when necessary.* Organizes activities during the patient's initial visit admission to the Oncology Clinic/inpatient care unit to ensure that all required assessments of patient are completed, along with patient education and are documented appropriately.* Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of clinical components of care required in the Oncology Clinic/care unit and of specialized equipment operation to provide for direct care and for supervision of others in safe and effective operation of this equipment in the Oncology setting with adaptation of the use of this equipment to patients in all age groups served by the Clinic.* Provides direct supervision of other personnel assigned to the Oncology Clinic to ensure appropriate delegation of responsibilities in collaboration with the Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager and/or Clinical Director.Communicates effectively with Medical Staff to facilitate coordination of patient care among all disciplines providing patient care services.* Ensures that nursing interventions are appropriately carried out with evaluation of patient responses and communicated to responsible practitioners as indicated and that all components of the nursing process are documented in accordance with standards of practice.* Performs patient assessments and reassessments on a regular basis in accordance with standards of care with documentation of these assessments as a basis for planning of each patient's care.Required Education and ExperienceGraduate of an accredited nursing program1 - 3 years related experienceRequired License/CertificationsCurrent RN Licensure in the state of TexasBLS CertificationChemotherapy/Biotherapy (ONS) Certification obtained within 12 months of hire or date of transfer
