Job Description
Working with the Senior Reliability Engineer and team to investigate and solve real world On Track Machine problems, including failure investigation, design improvements, obsolescence management, development of machine modifications and reliability engineering. This is a technical role looking towards professional registration but includes a lot of hands on work.
Our small team work across most engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, control systems, railway systems) so your curiosity, adaptability, and desire to learn are a key requirement to our success.
You will interact with everyone including machine crews, overhaul teams, customer representatives, suppliers and senior management so a confident professional attitude is a must.
Your role will include taking failed components apart and proposing solutions to prevent reoccurrence, talking with machine crews to determine problem area requiring attention, collecting reliability data to propose machine improvements, and ultimately defining a solution package. Depending on the size of solution required, you might develop the complete solution in house, or manage an external supplier in producing the solution.
As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
Qualifications
Formal education in a relevant Engineering discipline is required (HND, BEng, MEng), however experience, attitude and ability are more important than any specific educational path.
Appreciation of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, with deeper knowledge in at least one area. Knowledge of the formal engineering change process, fleet management, technical hazard identification and assessment.
Must be IT literate, particularly with MS Excel. Experience with CAD (Solid Edge and TeamCentre) an advantage.
As this role requires occasional access to the railway infrastructure you will need to pass the Network Rail Personal Track Safety medical and Drugs & Alcohol screening.
Full UK Driving License.
Experience with heavy machinery maintenance or management is an advantage.
Commercially aware and adaptive to needs of the business.
Willingness to travel within the UK up to 25%.
