Responsibilities
Franciscan Medical Group, as part of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, is currently seeking a full-time Registered Medical Assistant for the Franciscan Family Medicine Clinic in Bonney Lake, WA. Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant - Registered are responsible for assisting medical and nursing staff by performing clerical and clinical support tasks within their scope. Responsibilities include: coordinating schedules for patients and/or providers, rooming, vitals and clinical tasks, such as health maintenance, that support direct patient care.
Incumbents are also accountable for maintaining the confidentiality of all medical information and adhering to department and hospital safety, risk management, standard precautions standards, policies and procedures related to the assigned Clinic Practice.
Essential Duties:
Capture relevant information about the patients health and healthcare experience such as medical history, take vitals), administer point-of-care testing within scope of practice, and perform standard age and condition-appropriate screening assessments without interpretation of those results.
Prepare patient for exams, procedures, and/or treatments.
Maintain a patient's medication and immunization record.
Take responsibility (in partnership with providers) for the health of a population of patients and monitor and track whether those patients are up to date on preventive and quality measures.
Identify transitional care gaps and coach members to access appropriate services. Identify needed community and medical/behavioral services to support members goals and coach members to access them.
Identify members' clinical and non-clinical needs and report to appropriate care team members.
Establish healing relationships with members and families.
Assist with the coordination of care across the continuum, such as: coordinating referrals, and sharing or transferring information with the patients internal and external care team as appropriate.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, other internal departments, particularly health services and medical management, to support multidisciplinary care.
Reviews medical documentation to validate information and to identify inconsistencies/errors and facilitate overall accuracy of the medical record in accordance with established procedures/requirements.
Relays clinical data, lab and/or other test results only with the interpretation of the test results by the provider to the patient; limited to normal results. Abnormal and Critical results are outside of the scope of practice for an MA-R.
Troubleshoots/resolves routine issues and escalates non-routine issues to provider or other appropriate contact.
Understands and applies legal/ethical requirements relating to the preparation of medical documentation and patient confidentiality.
Prepares and disposes of contaminated items in accordance with established standards; keeps exam rooms clean, orderly and well stocked; maintains adequate inventory of supplies; supplies, and equipment and plans accordingly.
Schedules follow-up appointments and prior-authorizations for medication as instructed.
Coordinates patient flow to ensure sufficient time for patient/family education.
Performs telephone communication functions; giving clear information both verbally and in writing as allowed by scope.
Cultural Sensitivity and Competence: Demonstrates proper use of communication tools/materials for effective communication and understands how the culture(s) of patient populations can affect communication, collaboration and the provision of care, treatment and services. Patient Population Served: Demonstrates knowledge and proper skills associated with the department’s defined specific populations served.
Qualifications
Education/Work Experience:
High School Diploma (or GED equivalent)
Six months of healthcare experience/direct patient interaction (i.e. EMT, NA-C, Patient Access Representative)
Licensure/Certifications:
Registered Medical Assistant application (Washington State) completed within 7 days of hire
Basic Life Support required at hire
