Description

Summary

This position contributes to all aspects of Kuna’s comprehensive planning group, that provides planning and analysis services to the following Alaska-based market sectors:

§Energy, including regional, oil, gas, and mining

§Rural Alaska/Alaska Native Villages

§Facilities

§Aviation

§Transportation

§Environmental;

§Emergency Preparedness and Response

§Economic Development

The individual will provide support for fundamental plan development, (i.e. comprehensive, energy, transportation, aviation, facility) grant writing/development, stakeholder engagement, social impact, and other related consulting services.This position will operate following a “seller-doer” approach, supporting the team’s long-term growth.

The position is also expected to be a point-person on the company’s public involvement/outreach initiatives with various projects and agencies. The individual may also support Kuna and our client’s social media and website content.

The position works in the context of a multi-discipline consulting environment and is expected to support the greater Kuna team in the execution of their work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

§Develop infrastructure, technical, and grant financing plans, especially rural/Alaska Native sectors.

§Act as lead on social, environmental, or economic impact assessments relating to proposed projects, systems, or technologies.

§Act as project manager on projects of varying size and scope, managing projects to the PMI/Kuna standard, and managing projects per contract requirements.

§Develop technical reports and analyses to support various planning projects, primarily in the areas of comprehensive, energy, economic development, hazard mitigation, transportation and airport planning.

§Conduct successful sales, marketing, and business development activities to support the long-term sustainability of the Planning Group.

§Conduct research, engage with stakeholders, and develop draft and final planning documents.

§Engage with clients and the public to support planning projects.

§Perform quality control of staff planning documents.

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

§Bachelor’s Degree in planning or related field required.

§Minimum of 5 – 7 years professional planning or similar experience required; Graduate study in urban, regional, transportation, landscape planning or related field may be substituted for work experience.

§Experience utilizing forecasting methodologies, statistical principles and methods, data gathering techniques and procedures, research objectives and impacts required

§Experience utilizing various computerized programs and processes used in managing and analyzing planning data required.

§Advanced level technical writing skills.Applicant may be asked to provide examples of technical writing reports and other writing samples.

§Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel; developing word documents, spreadsheets and graphics.Proficiency with other software such as ArcGIS or InDesign is also desired.

§Must be able to travel; frequent travel to remote Alaskan sites in small aircraft will be required.

§A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.

Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment.

Physical requirements:Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Travel: Employee may travel up to 25% to various locations within the U.S. and/or remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes and ATVs.

Travel may require an employee or contractor to pass a TSA security checkpoint. If the employee or contractor does not have valid identification, they will not be able to travel until valid identification is obtained and verified.
